Located in Orleans, Ontario, HLES is known for providing a strong musical education experience for all students. Under the direction of Rob Pretty, the HLES Senior Concert Band, is an extra-curricular band composed of students in grades 7 and 8 who demonstrate advanced musical abilities and express an interest in growing their musical knowledge and musicianship through performance. They, along with the HLES Jazz Band, were recently awarded gold at the Capital Region Music Festival in March.

Both ensembles will be performing at Canada’s National Musicfest in Ottawa from May 13-18, 2019.

Final Fantasy, one of the most popular gaming franchises of all time, recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. The Henry Larsen Senior Concert band will be performing a Final Fantasy VII medley, featuring memorable themes such as “Tifa’s Theme”, “Bombing Mission” and “JENOVA”. The game’s story follows Cloud Strife, a mercenary who joins an eco-terrorist organization to stop a world-controlling megacorporation from using the planet’s life essence as an energy source. Events send Cloud and his allies in pursuit of Sephiroth, a superhuman intent on destroying their planet.

Next is the folk inspired main theme from the recently released Octopath Travelerfor the Nintendo Switch. Another JRPG title also developed by Square Enix featuring a new style known as “2D-HD”, defined by the developers as combining retro Super NES-style character sprites and textures with polygonal environments and high-definition effects. Set in the world of Orsterra, the player assumes the role of the one of eight characters, each of whom begins their journey in different ways. Each character hails from different parts of the world, each of which determines their job or attribute. The performance finale will be the high-energy “Battle Theme I & II”, also from Octopath Traveler. This song, composed by Yasunori Nishiki, captures the urgency and sometimes frantic nature of battle, while also remaining heroic and promoting perseverance within the player.
