Biography
Tawny Newsome is an American musician, comedian, and actress best known for playing Ensign Beckett Mariner on the animated series, Star Trek: Lower Decks, a role that recently received the live-action treatment on the second season crossover episode, “These Old Scientists”, on the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
Newsome’s first major television role was playing Chelsea Leight-Leigh on the parody “reality” series Bajillion Dollar Propertie$, which co-starred her Lower Decks castmate, Eugene Cordero (Sam Rutherford). She had a recurring role on the comedy mockumentary series, The Comedy Get Down and the sitcom Brockmire, alongside Hank Azaria. She starred as Captain Anegla Ali on the Netflix workplace comedy series Space Force, alongside Steven Carell and John Malkovich. She has also had recurring roles on Netflix’s drama series True Story, with Kevin Hart and Apple TV+’s Physical with Rose Byrne.
Since 2020, Newsome has co-hosted Star Trek: The Pod Directive, the official Star Trek podcast, along with comedian Paul F. Tompkins.
