Biography
Jason Isaacs is best known for playing imperious screen villains such as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, William Tavington in The Patriot (2000), Captain Hook in Peter Pan (2003), The Grand Inquisitor in Star Wars Rebels, and Commander Zhao in Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Spanning a career of close to 4 decades, Isaacs has collected an impressive amount of film, TV, theatre, and voice acting credits. He appeared in the fantasy-adventure film Dragonheart (1996), which starred Dennis Quaid and Sean Connery, appeared alongside Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill in the science-fiction horror film Event Horizon (1997) and part of the star-studded ensemble in Armageddon (1998). Additional film credits include Black Hawk Down (2001), Crash (2004), Green Zone (2004), Fury (2014), Stockholm, Pennsylvania(2015), The Death of Stalin (2017), and, most recently, in the critically acclaimed film, Mass (2021).
On the television side, Isaacs has appeared in a diverse range of roles, from playing Detective Michael Britten in Awake, Peter Connelly in Dig, Dr. Hunter Aloysius in The OA, Captain Gabriel Lorca in Star Trek: Discovery, Peter Groff in Sex Education, and Jack Lamb in the Tom Holland starrer The Crowded Room. He has recently been cast as classic Hollywood star Cary Grant for a new biopic titled Archie, a four-part drama series telling the story of Grant’s life, from his humble beginnings as Archibald Alexander Leach in Bristol, U.K. to the leading man he became in later life.
Additionally, Isaacs is remarkable voice actor, voicing such roles as Ra’s al Ghul in Batman: Under the Hood (2010), Sinestro in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (2011), Lex Luthor in Justice League: Gods and Monsters (2015), Dracula in Monster Family (2017), Superman in Red Son (2020), The Emperor skekSo in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, and the Judge in Castlevania.
