Biography

Denise Crosby is an American actress best known for portraying Security Chief Tasha Yar on the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as Yar’s own daughter, the half-Romulan Commander Sela, in subsequent seasons. She is also known for her numerous film and television roles and for starring in and producing the documentary films Trekkies (1997) and Trekkies 2 (2004).

Crosby’s first high-profile role was as Lisa Davis on the soap opera Days of our Lives. She has appeared as Dr. Gretchen Kelly on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, as Doctor Mary Speake in The X-Files, had the “privilege” to be Dexter Morgan’s first victim, on Showtime’s hit series Dexter, and as Mary, the matriarch of the disturbing settlement, Terminus on The Walking Dead. She’s also starred, or guest starred, in several non-genre series including Key West, Southland, Ray Donovan, and Suits.

One of her very first film appearances was in the Nick Nolte/Eddie Murphy film 48 Hrs (1982). Additionally, she had roles and appeared in Stephen King’s Pet Sematary (1989), Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown (1997), Mimi Leder’s Deep Impact (1998), and Tobe Hooper’s Mortuary (2005).
