Biography

Cary Elwes is an English-American actor and voice actor, best known for his roles as Westley in The Princess Bride (1987), Lord Arthur Holmwood in Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992), Robin Hood in Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), Garrett in Quest for Camelot (1998), and Dr. Lawrence Gordon in Saw (2004) and Saw 3D: The Final Chapter (2010).He also appeared in box office hits such as Days of Thunder (1990), Hot Shots! (1991), Twister (1996),  Liar, Liar (1997) and New Year’s Eve (2011). He has had recurring roles in television series such as The X-Files playing Brad Follmer and Psych playing Pierre Despereaux. Elwes was selected to appear as Henry Detmer in the pilot episode of NBC’s Wonder Woman, however, the show was never picked up for a series. Elwes played the young Pope John Paul II in the 2005 CBS television film Pope John Paul II.

He has provided voice work for characters in film and television animations such as Pinky and The Brain, Batman Beyond, and the English versions of the Studio Ghibli films Porco Rosso (1992), Whisper of the Heart (1995), and The Cat Returns (2002). He has also provided motion capture for Robert Zemeckis’s adaption of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol (2009), and Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Belgian artist Hergé’s popular comic strip The Adventures of Tintin (2011). Later this year, he will appear alongside Penélope Cruz, Santiago Segura and his Princess Pride co-star Mandy Patinkin in The Queen of Spain.

Cary recently joined the cast of the hit-series Stranger Things.
